Work Experience at Aardman - Day 2

Tue Apr 8, 2008, 3:30 PM
SO! the bus I was told about yesterday wasnt all that great as I had hoped. It took 50 minutes, but that is an improvement, and it does cost £1. Maybe it was rush traffic. On top of it taking longer then the 35 written on the time table, I got off at the wrong stop, a missunderstandig from the day before, so istead of enjoying my breakfast in the cafeteria as planned, I enjoyed my Sandwich while running back 2 kilometers. I'll get the right stop tomorrow.

Today I finished pressing the rest of the mouths, just in time for lunch. Afterwards I sat downstairs with the assistant animators sculpting the mouths, giving them the correct shape and adding teeth and tongue. Took me the rest of the day to do one (1!) and it's still not 100% finished as the aim is to have it look EXACTLY like the original model. I was told the assistant animators use 1/2 hour sculpting each mouth, but that I did a good first attempt. It was alot of fun beng able to follow the mouths through the process. In a few days I have hopefully finished the whole set.

Talked to a girl doing work experience in a break today, with Peter Lord standing next to us enjoying the sun. He suddenly started talking to us and we had a quick chat. Pretty cool having met the boss of Aardman. A nice guy, and he said there would be some Norwegians coming to visit in a while, so I'll have to find out more about that! :)

Got a lift home today too. Drop of point was 5 min away from the backpacker. Wrong backpacker though, so add another 15 on top of that. It was nice to get to have a walk to Bristol City Center along the river and have a look while there was still sunlight, Havnt had that opportunity before.

Well, past my bedtime now, gotta go, trying to be healthy.

See ya!

Thanks :) I addressed my application directly to both the head of animation and the head of model making, that way I had someone to contact afterwards to check if it had arrived and hear their thoughts.
